Jennifer Aniston is remembering Dolly Parton.
While speaking at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on Wednesday, Sept. 2, the 57-year-old actress revealed a piece of advice her late collaborator once shared with her.
When asked about the best advice she could give, Aniston mentioned her “dear friend” Parton, who died at the age of 80 on Aug. 25.
“She would say, ‘I chased a few rainbows and I caught some and I caught a few.’ So I would say just go chase your dreams and go catch some rainbows. Chase rainbows,” the Friends star said.

The event was in celebration of her boyfriend Jim Curtis’ new book, The Book of Possibility.
After sharing the words of wisdom from Parton, she encouraged people to purchase the self-help book.
Aniston interviewed Curtis during the event, which also saw an introduction by author Gabrielle Bernstein and a musical performance by East Forest.
Aniston and Parton worked together on the 2018 movie Dumplin’ that starred Danielle Macdonald as an outcast teen who enters a beauty pageant. The Emmy winner starred as the teen’s mom and a former beauty pageant queen, while Parton contributed music to the soundtrack.
The music icon recorded the Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated song “Girl in the Movies” with Linda Perry for the comedy-drama.

The soundtrack featured several other new and re-recorded songs by Parton.
Parton was drawn to the movie because she loved Julie Murphy‘s 2015 novel that it’s based on. “The whole story came from a book that was written a few years back and it was about a little girl that loved my music and was inspired, she and her aunt, by listening to my records, and it kind of helped build her confidence,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2018.
“I had read the book because people told me there was a book about me, and I loved it,” Parton continued.
The country star was later contacted by Aniston to get involved.
“I didn’t think any more about [the book] until Jennifer Aniston’s company called me a couple years ago sayin’ that she was doing it as a movie and was gonna be starrin’ in it and asking if they could license some of my original music for the movie and I said, ‘Of course,’ ” she said.
Aniston has been working on a reimagining of the 1980 comedy film 9 to 5, in which Parton made her film debut. While the Grammy winner was not involved in the project, she previously gave it her blessing.
“I love Jennifer. I think it’ll be a wonderful thing… I do wish her the best, because the script I read, I thought, was really good and a new and different take that really brings the office up to date the way that people live now,” Parton said in 2025.
