Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie’s alleged 20-year feud is widely seen as one of the most bitter rivalries in Hollywood history, and what started back in 2005 could now come back to haunt the A-listers in the most public of ways.

It’s been two decades since Jennifer’s divorce from Brad Pitt and the Hollywood hunk’s subsequent steamy romance, and later marriage, to Angelina, but the scandal remains one of the most talked about in showbiz history.

So naturally, we’re surprised it has taken this long for TV bosses to recognise, as a source now tells us, that the drama has all the ‘ingredients for a major box office hit’.

Claiming that a new major TV show or movie dramatizing the love triangle narrative between Jennifer, Brad and his one-time co-star Angelina could now be in the pipeline, the insider says, ‘If they can make a big movie about Sully ["Miracle on the Hudson" pilot Chesley Sullenberger III] and something like 'Pam and Tommy' can get a bunch of Emmy nominations, then the saga of Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie's epic decades-long feud is fair game.’

They add, ‘It’s got the ingredients of a major box office hit, or at the very least an extremely buzzy streaming miniseries. Enough time has passed that the full story can finally be told, and the race is on to figure that out and assemble a project.’

Jennifer, who went on to marry Justin Theroux in 2015 before splitting, and Angelina, who tied the knot with Brad in 2014 before their bitter 2016 split, are not believed to have spoken since 2004. At the time Jennifer had been married to Brad for four years and had reportedly wished Angelina luck in working with her husband.

But in a rare display of unity, an insider says the mere suggestion of such a project has caused alarm for both Jennifer, 57, and Angelina, 50, who have spent years trying to distance themselves from the drama that once both defined their public image and pitted them against one another so fiercely that ‘Team Aniston’ and ‘Team Jolie' t-shirts were a sell-out.

We’re told, ‘It’s been over 20 years since everything went down and they still can’t escape it. The thought of turning it all into a trashy TV spectacle is the stuff of nightmares, that’s one thing they absolutely see eye to eye on.

‘They’ve both spent so many years trying to move past all the drama, so hearing people talk about the possibility of it all being dragged back into the spotlight again is incredibly upsetting. Neither of them wants to relive the circus that surrounded that period and they certainly don’t want to see actors playing them on screen while every painful detail gets dissected all over again.’

The potential project is said to be at a very early stage, with no confirmed network or production company attached, but with even the likes of The Royal Family falling victim to Hollywood via Netflix’s award-winning drama The Crown, the source says Jennifer and Angelina have had to face up to the reality that they aren’t immune to the machine.

‘There was a time when this sort of thing would have been unthinkable, there were certain lines that studios wouldn’t cross and certain private matters that were simply left alone,’ the insider says.

‘But that’s not the reality anymore. These days nothing seems to be off limits if there’s an audience for it, and the truth is their story still fascinates people, it’s become the stuff of legend.

‘Hollywood has proven time and again that if a real-life scandal has enough built-in drama, someone will eventually try to turn it into a project. And as invasive as it is, the events surrounding their feud have been so widely reported over the years that it’s unlikely they would be able to block it.’

Jennifer and Brad were once considered one of Hollywood’s golden couples. The pair married in July 2000 in a lavish Malibu ceremony attended by hundreds of guests, cementing their status as entertainment royalty at the height of Jennifer’s fame on Friends.

At the time, Jennifer was tinseltown’s ultimate girl-next-door and Brad, her all-American Prince Charming with whom she had found her Happy Ever After.

Brad, now 62, then began filming the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Angelina in 2004, and rumours of a romance between the co-stars then intensified dramatically when Jennifer and Brad announced their separation just months later in January 2005.

Just five months later, Angelina and Brad controversially posed for a magazine shoot titled Domestic Bliss, which led to Angelina being painted publicly as a pantomime 'homewrecker’ figure. Angelina has since maintained that their relationship didn’t begin until after his marriage had ended.

Dubbed ‘Brangelina’, the pair went on to raise six children together – Maddox, Pax and Zahara, who were adopted internationally, and Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne, their three biological children – before their 2016 split fast became one of the most toxic divorces in showbiz. It was finalised in 2024 but legal disputes over their French winery are still ongoing.

However, despite their personal differences, the source warns that both Angelina and Jennifer remain incredibly powerful figures in Hollywood as we’re told they could both, at best, call in their contacts, and at worst create a ‘legal firestorm’ – potentially making it tricky for any project to reach the Big Screen.

‘You have to go into something like this with a reality check,’ the insider says.

‘You produce a show about Aniston and Jolie without their involvement and you become an enemy of both of them, and their powerful friends, for life, not to mention the legal firestorm you could set off in the process.

‘Pamela Anderson has made it her mission in life to shame the producers of 'Pam & Tommy' – and she openly called them out as 'assholes' in the press. And Aniston and Jolie both have sharper claws than Pamela any day of the week.’

However, even with potential hurdles to jump and challenges to face, the source says TV and movie bosses may not be able to resist what could be a surefire hit for audiences.

‘Apart from raising ire, there’s ton of potential upsides to telling this story,’ the insider says.

‘All Aniston and Jolie can really do is hope that producers decide the backlash isn’t worth it. But considering the level of interest that still surrounds their history, a lot of people in the industry believe it’s only a matter of time before someone takes the risk and tries to tell the story anyway.’
